Short Cuts Cologne

The Cologne short film festival short cuts cologne is beginning its 11th round. We have chosen the best short films from over 2500 entries from 7 countries, in order to show them in this year’s festival program

As is rightly so, short films are accompanied by an expectation that differentiates them from all other cate­gories and varieties of the medium. They are innovative, daring, and often otherwise unheard of. Short films don’t stand for being stuffed away in a drawer and, thus, we find an enormous creative richness in the entire short film spectrum. New impulses are given, frontiers transgressed and new ideas are consequently thought out, which is why developments that are being made in short films will be recognized in the following years anew in the entire film industry – be it the topic of the movie, the technology employed, the presentation, or even the format.

Because these innovations are a global phenomenon and not easily confined to a specific location, the international competition remains central to short cuts cologne. The best of this year’s submitted films will be shown and judged, not only by an expert jury, but also awarded by the public.

Continuity can be found in the festival program in seve­ral old familiar categories, including the “Belgian Special” or the “shorts for kids,” in which excellent short films, documentaries, experimental films, and animations are to be seen. The “shorts for kids” was developed in cooperation with the children’s film festival “cinepänz.” Even the focus on specific countries is still here. This time we’re focusing on the discovery of the cinematic side of Portugal.

The “erotic shorts” was expanded this year to offer something for every taste: there is a gay, a lesbian, and a hetero program.
We are confident that there is something here among the selection diverse and innovative short films for ­every short film fan and that we will win further fans as well. We would like to wish the audience in advance a wonderful viewing experience.
