Thai Short & Video Festival

Thai Short Film and Video Festival started in 1997 aiming to encourage to independent spirits to expose their hidden creativity. It is a local short film and video competition in conjunction with screening selected short films from several contras. Within a decade, the number of entries increases from 30 to more than 400, creating the dynamic atmosphere for the microscopic Thai film culture. One of its unique activities is ‘Marathon Screening’ that screens all of the entries applied for the competition. Gertjan Zuilhof, the programmer of International Film Festival of Rotterdam, finds this activity democratic and open-minded spirit of the festival.

Although the festival seems small in scale, it is a piloting event that creates the awareness of the term ‘short film’ among Thai people.Thanks to the festival, shorts and independents find their shelter from the mainstream influence.
